
Atlantic American's roots reach back to 1937 and the founding of the Dilbeck and Dominey Insurance Agency. That agency soon became one of the largest underwriters of workers' compensation insurance in the state of Georgia.
1947
In 1947, Messrs. Dilbeck and Dominey, along with five other employees, formed Georgia Casualty & Surety Company.
1962
Atlantic American Life is formed through the merger of Atlantic National Life and Universal American.
1968
Atlantic American Corporation, a publicly-traded entity, was formed in 1968 for the purpose of holding the stock of four Georgia corporations, including Georgia Casualty & Surety.
1970
In 1970, Atlantic American Life Insurance Company became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Corporation.
1974
J. Mack Robinson, a prominent entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist, purchased Atlantic American Corporation in 1974. Under Mr. Robinson's leadership, acquisitions and mergers helped to shape the future of the Corporation.
1975
Atlantic American Corporation's growth continued as Bankers Fidelity Life was acquired in 1975.
1985
Atlantic American Corporation announces a total corporate income of over $94 million. Total assets are reported at over $200 million. For the third straight year Forbes Magazine lists the corporation as one of "The Best Small Companies in America."

1995
Atlantic American acquired American Southern Insurance and its wholly owned subsidiary, American Safety Insurance Company, in 1995.
1996
Atlantic American Life and Bankers Fidelity Life were merged in 1996 with Bankers Fidelity Life as the surviving company.
Also in 1996, Self-Insurance Administrators, Inc., an Atlanta-based third party administrator of self-insured companies and public organizations, was acquired by the Corporation.
1999
Texas-based Association Casualty Insurance Company and Association Risk Management General Agency were acquired in 1999.
2008
Atlantic American sells Georgia Casualty, Association Casualty and Association Risk Management to Columbia Mutual Insurance Co. of Columbia, Missouri, part of the Columbia Insurance Group.
2010
xCalibre Risk Services, Inc. becomes a new subsidiary company of Atlantic American Corporation.
Even though Atlantic American is relatively young by insurance industry standards, our current group of companies represents nearly 200 years of cumulative experience.
Atlantic American continues to position itself for aggressive growth as an underwriter of niche insurance products in well-defined specialty markets. We continue to look for potential acquisition candidates that will complement our existing entities while maximizing shareholder value.
